The tooth fairy comes calling

April 9, 2015

Yes ! finally the tooth fairy visited Cuddles and took away his two lower teeth. Well, it wasn’t as simple as that. For almost a year Cuddles was watching his classmates and friends’s toothless grins. He often asked, “Aaaa (that’s his oft repeated first word) when am I going to lose my teeth.” As he had late teething we were not really worried. In grade one I think he was the only one whose milk teeth were all intact. At my dentist appointment last month I casually mentioned this and so, the dentist checked his teeth. She notice a swelling at his lower teeth and said, soon, very soon. But… er nothing happened, until last week his dad noticed that his permanent teeth had already sprouted behind his milk teeth, which stood staunchly strong. Off we went to the dentist, who tried at first a gel to take out the milk teeth, but soon realised that an injection was inescapable.

Cuddles was not really putting up a brave front, so were politely told to wait outside while she administered the injection. In barely five minutes it was all over and we were presented the teeth in a tissue. teeth

Now the big challenge is for him to keep pushing his permanent teeth with his tongue so that they come to the right position. The tooth fairy gifted him a Cogo building model (a cheaper Lego version). Here is what he made it into.

Last day of Grade 1

March 12, 2015

Officially Cuddles finished grade 1 today and by next month he will be starting grade 2. It also means the spring break is on. Apart from thinking of ways to keep him busy the fact that the year went of in a blink is what’s troubling me the most. Time does fly, but I didn’t expect it to go by so soon. How does one treasure these moments that will never return. Mere words and pictures are not enough to capture a mother’s wonder at seeing her baby grow into a young boy every day. As I am a sucker for nostalgia as the years fly by it’s only going to get tougher.

First post of 2015

January 8, 2015

Well, the lazy mom has finally been inspired to pen down a few lines here. The inspiration came after a random picassa search that revealed one of Cuddles’ earliest videos. He is barely a few weeks or days old (can’t even recollect now), a Hindi song plays in the backdrop on a radio and little Cuddles is actually napping and his eager dad is recording. In his sleep he smiles, opens his eyes, looks innocently around, closes his eyes again and makes the suckling gesture from his mouth. What got me thinking was the fact that how adorably innocent he was then, and how overwhelmed I was with the new changes in my life that I really never savoured a moment of happiness from those days. It also got me thinking that how at 6 and a half years he still remains an adorably innocent child. Pair him with a group of similar aged kids and you will instantly know that he knows no malice unlike the oversmart brats his age. Although he is impatient and a whiner these days he still is very pure at heart. I sometimes worry for my naive child and how he will find his foothold in this increasingly slippery world. I still have to learn the lesson of letting go, and I really don’t know if I would ever.

Officially six

July 14, 2014

Embracing motherhood was not an easy decision for me. I mulled over the idea for a couple of years before taking the plunge. True to my fears it wasn’t a smooth experience at all. From chronic diseases acting up during the pregnancy to very tough breastfeeding months there were several personal battles. But today when I look back at those 6 years nothing but happy memories fill me up with a deep sense of amazement and gratitude. There is also a huge wave of nostalgia as I think back about Cuddles childhood days. The little hands, the cherubic face — it doesn’t help that he is such an adorably cute kid. Past the restless days he is today a calmer soul large hearted obedient and loving grown up boy. Taller than most kids his age we often get to hear that he looks like a third grader, especially accompanying his midget 🙂 parents.

The birthday celebrations are now divided into two — one in late June with the friends as most of them leave for vacations by July  and the actual one is celebrated with family. Yesterday we added some more fun to the evening by going for a visit to the Burj Khalifa at the top followed by dinner at Dubai Mall. Before that the day started at home with Cuddles opening his presents. His much admired and awaited Lego Castle topped the list of gifts — he spend the whole day making it and surprising me with his ingenuity. Evening a Chota Bheem cake was cut and a mystery note search was done by Cuddles to find his gift (the whole game was planned by his dear uncle A).

Day 16 The big move

May 27, 2013

The weekend was well-utilised for relocating our residence. The movers and packers did a fine job of packing our house, loading the truck and transferring all of that to our new house. Unlike our earlier house shifting experiences where we did everything on our own getting professional help made things easier. Although once everything was placed in the new house they managed to only fix the main furniture leaving behind suitcases of clothes, boxes of kitchen utensils and a lot of wall accessories (we are really big on them). Seeing the current mess in the house I shudder to think how many days of back breaking work will make it look like my own sweet home. Cuddles stayed at grandparents on the day of the shifting. Since then he has been a big help to his dad when he is fixing things at home. A happy Cuddles declared, “I like helping people”.

Day 15 Cuddles’ wisdom

May 27, 2013

With my sis in the family way there is a lot of talk about babies at home these days.

So, one morning Cuddles declared, “When I grow up I will also have a baby. I will be father.”

After a pause he wondered, “But who will be mother.”

To which I said, “Your wife will be the mother.”

Obviously the next question was ‘who will be my wife’.

I had no answers to that, so Cuddles quietly pointed a finger at…..

ME (and we both laughed loud).
