Junior update

June 5, 2017

Dear world

I will soon be a year old, and needless to say I am a busy man, exploring the world around me, which sometimes gets dangerous as I squiggle beneath the sofa and cannot manage to get out, or slip over a cushion and hit my face hard on the floor, be inches away from the detol bottle in the bathroom or lick some batteries when no one’s looking. My curiosity and antics make sure that my mom is always on high alert, which is why she barely finds time to write the blog.

Born in the era of whatsapp and instant communication, I am also in a hurry to reach milestones. I got my first tooth at 9 months and by 10 months I had four more. Days before 11 months birthday I walked a few steps unaided and there is no stopping me after that. I can climb on a two tier stool, I babble a lot, but I can clearly say mammaaa mammma, papa, baba baba.

I recently took my first flight and wowed everyone in the new city with my attention seeking antics, that involved a cute head tilt and a smile that would melt the admirers’ hearts. My striking blue grey eyes are of course the highlight of all conversations. I love playing with Cuddles who himself rarely showers undivided attention on me. My cousin N, on the other hand, is too clingy and I like to keep her at bay with a slap and a bite. Yes, I told you I am a brat, but a lovable one. Keep reading, tata tata until next time.

The Big News

February 16, 2017

…is that we have expanded the Cuddles franchise to include a tiny member called Junior. Born coincidentally on the same day as his big bro Junior is winning us over with his cute antics.

At seven months Junior keeps his momma on her toes. Wriggling and squiggling to catch all that comes in his way Junior’s hands are always itchy to grab things that go straight into his mouth for a lick test. So, from the coarse fabric of the sofa covers, the metallic taste of my Samsung phone, the smooth tile of the floor, the plasticy bits of his musical toys or a strand of hair or a part of an adult’s hand — Junior has run his tongue all over them.

A curious being ready to explore his surroundings, his eyes are always at the door, waiting in anticipation of the world outside and of the people who would step inside. Coos and aahs, at times angry rrrrrs, Junior seems to be a good communicator, expressing his desire to start talking.

Crazy about his big bro Junior has the best time laughing and gurgling in joy while playing with Cuddles, who is fast growing up to be a big guy (he reaches till the top of my ears!!!).

Some notes from past months not published :

**At four months Junior has learnt to turn on his belly. Most times he welcomes us with a toothless drooling grin. There are of course angry outbursts too especially when he does not get what he wants in his hands.

** Days short of reaching the three month old milestone, the lil one loves to see his brother play who on the other hand is currently shy and hesitant to play with his younger sibling, we are hoping that as time passes the brothers will bond.

Heartwarming gesture

Since the past two days Cuddles was at work. Scissors, glue and his deft fingers were busy creating something, but behind close doors for it was a surprise he planned to unveil on my birthday. So, after the candles were blown and the cake was cut, Cuddles sheepishly handed me a paper note. It said ‘behind the kitchen door’.  Off I went, excited that finally I would get to see the grand surprise. But nooo… I was sorely mistaken, instead of a gift there was another paper note awaiting me. It read — ‘on the computer table’, well you guessed it right, he made me run around the house, with one paper note after another to finally the one that read ‘look under the bedsheet’. All that running around was totally worth it because under the sheets were a cute pair of handmade cards, specially created by Cuddles with love for his mamma’s birthday. Bless you my son. Cheers to many more adventures together.

A letter from Cuddles by his Dad

August 6, 2015

I unearthed the email Cuddles’ Dad wrote announcing his birth to our friends and family back in 2008. I just happened to search my email looking for his birth height as I remember the pediatrician telling us that he is a tall baby and till now he is the tallest one in class (especially with his short parents, its quite an eye roller that most people subject us to the moment they hear his age). Well at 7 he is 134 cms, already towering above my shoulders.

Here is the email.

My name means God is Gracious. I am using my father’s mail ID as I am only a few days old. I am told though, that kids have their own web page nowadays!
I was very comfortable in the last nine months but this world seems funny: For one that I am not the only one here and for the other that everyone who comes to see me bends over to make funny faces and odd noises. For those of you who thrive on statistics, I weigh 3.58kgs.

It all started on the 13th when Mum started to have labour and we reached the hospital. Nani and Dad waited outside for a couple of hours while Mum delivered me: Normal Delivery on Sunday July 13 at 9:36 pm. I came back home the next day and I was glad to know that Mum Dad Masi and Nana Nani will stay with me in my house!

Nowadays all I do is sleep and drink milk. I don’t cry much but sometimes its necessary: you know its tough to be a kid these days

Officially six

July 14, 2014

Embracing motherhood was not an easy decision for me. I mulled over the idea for a couple of years before taking the plunge. True to my fears it wasn’t a smooth experience at all. From chronic diseases acting up during the pregnancy to very tough breastfeeding months there were several personal battles. But today when I look back at those 6 years nothing but happy memories fill me up with a deep sense of amazement and gratitude. There is also a huge wave of nostalgia as I think back about Cuddles childhood days. The little hands, the cherubic face — it doesn’t help that he is such an adorably cute kid. Past the restless days he is today a calmer soul large hearted obedient and loving grown up boy. Taller than most kids his age we often get to hear that he looks like a third grader, especially accompanying his midget 🙂 parents.

The birthday celebrations are now divided into two — one in late June with the friends as most of them leave for vacations by July  and the actual one is celebrated with family. Yesterday we added some more fun to the evening by going for a visit to the Burj Khalifa at the top followed by dinner at Dubai Mall. Before that the day started at home with Cuddles opening his presents. His much admired and awaited Lego Castle topped the list of gifts — he spend the whole day making it and surprising me with his ingenuity. Evening a Chota Bheem cake was cut and a mystery note search was done by Cuddles to find his gift (the whole game was planned by his dear uncle A).

Day 4 Mother’s Day

May 12, 2013

Today was mother’s day, but wait wasn’t it mother’s day a few days ago as well. I always believed I don’t need a day to make my mom feel special, but yes one learns to flow with the tide, so on the last mother’s day (which was in March this year) I and sis gifted mom a bouquet of flowers. Cuddles tried to make a card for me, but lost interest (he did give me a birthday card earlier this year, so I have no qualms about not receiving one on mother’s day). If at all there was any yearning for a card it was fulfilled during a shopping trip to Babyshop where they were gifting mother’s day cards.

Cuddles came back from school with a coloured paper plate where he had drawn two flowers and a heart and the teacher had pasted a printed message that read ‘When God made mums, he gave me the best’ 🙂 and that sure made my day.

Day 2 and 3 weekend update

May 12, 2013

So typical of me to have actually forgotten to post in the last two days after committing to a blogathon. I remembered about the daily posts in the car yesterday driving back from Sharjah to Dubai.

Well, weekend started with church and sunday school for Cuddles. After which we rushed for a movie leaving Cuddles with grandparents (a rare treat for us). By the time we returned Cuddles was enjoying a mock game of being a pilot aboard a plane with his grandfather as the passenger and grandmother as the reluctant air hostess  While playing he stopped her from serving food to the pilot because he said air hostesses never serve food to pilot’s cabin 🙂

Friday Evening Cuddles played with his friends at home as we were too lazy to step out.

Saturday morning grandfather went for an outstation trip. Cuddles did his bit by sticking tape on the luggage, suggesting to pack the tape recorder to fill in empty spaces in the bags, repairing a torn box of sharpeners and last but not the least folding a random handkerchief and stuffing it into his grandfather’s  pocket. He is now counting days and eagerly awaiting return favours in the form of gifts.

In the evening we decided to have some beach fun and headed to the beach with some eatables and the sand play set. Cuddles’s enjoyed playing in the sand and splashing water.  His school will be holding an indoor beach fun day soon and this seemed like a prelude to it.
